A rolling luxury home-the price is comparable to the size of the house.

Let's face it: there are a lot of cool campers out there. Some provide exquisite luxury; others provide powerful off-road capabilities. But few people can match the truly luxurious Rise 4x4 from German manufacturer Stone Offroad Design in any one aspect, which was first discovered by New Atlas.

The all-wheel drive camper is great, but the Rise 4x4 goes a step further-using the Unimog made by Mercedes as the base vehicle, equipped with a 230-horsepower four-cylinder or 395-horsepower six-cylinder diesel engine. SOD will not interfere with Unimog’s inventory components, which include a 4x4 system with dedicated off-road gears, locking front and rear differentials, and raised air intakes, allowing for nearly four feet of water. Need more evidence to prove how bad this thing is? Rise 4x4 not only has a spare tire rack; it has a spare tire rack, and it can also carry an ATV.

You would expect such an off-road beast to become utilitarian in the interior. But the interior of the Rise 4x4 is as good as you find in a camper. The kitchen is equipped with a full-size refrigerator and freezer and a four-burner induction cooker. Rise 4x4 does have a wet bath... but it is the best wet bath one can imagine, with rain shower and floating dressing table. The cabin can sleep four people, there is a sleeper compartment above the cab, and the other bed floats above the dining table and chair/rest area. SOD provides heating, air conditioning and heated floors.

Rise 4x4 provides a combination of function and luxury, even EarthRomer can feel the low rent. For Europeans who are eligible to buy Rise 4x4, the price tag reflects this. SOD only lists the price of the six-cylinder model on its website. Including VAT, the price is 899,900 Euros. Converted to more than $1 million at the current exchange rate, even taking into account the recent inflation, this is still a staggering number for off-road campers.
