Ten top terraces offering warmth, coverage and damn food

Drinking in a bar with friends in winter is a very interesting thing. We know this. But what about when you want to spend time with friends in a bar outside in winter? Tricky, but manageable. Fortunately, London has a large number of top bar gardens equipped with heaters, blankets, etc., which means you don't need to rely solely on the famous "beer jacket" to stay warm. This is our favorite.

Yes, this bar is named after the rugby position, and yes, it is technically a "sports bar", but don’t let any of these facts prevent you from going to Finsbury Park and in A multi-level beer garden with a shaky guard. The stylish outdoor terraces here are strategically distributed on four floors, making full use of the limited space of the back, so that you can safely keep your distance from anyone wearing boat shoes.

What does a real pub look like? Sports, of course, but Daniel Radcliffe used to shoot a music video here, so I think it also has this effect?

Think Heath is Hampstead’s only target? Well, you are wrong. The Spaniards Inn is about a mile from the nearest tube station and is home to one of the best beer gardens in London-the kind of manic elf dream garden filled with energy-saving heaters and sheltered tables, Zakbu Love will write a movie about the mid-2000s. Legend has it that the equally talented director John Keats wrote his "Ode to the Nightingale" in this garden. It is not confirmed whether he listened to The Shins while doing so.

What does a real pub look like? eternal. Look forward to the embarrassment of dilapidated wooden floors and fireplaces.

Scolt Head is a family-run pub with a beer garden and delicious cuisine. The outdoor seating area (you can ask when booking) is not the largest, but it always makes you feel warm and welcome. Literally.

What does a real pub look like? Suffocated by kitsch dog paintings, like a very cute big kennel, which happens to serve Camden Town.

107a Calford Road, N1 4HT.

This beer garden-like many beautiful things in this great and prosperous city-is located on the A205 South Circular between Catford and Forest Hill. Blythe Hill Tavern (award-winning Camra Bar, no less than) has a lot of space (and heater), a lot of authentic beer and a real claim to pour the best Guinness in London. What does a real pub look like? Small, comfortable and loving Irish sports souvenirs.

A post shared by the Duke of Edinburgh in Brixton (@dukebrixton)

If bigger is better, then in terms of square feet alone, the Duke of Edinburgh’s beer garden may be the best in the city. The huge outdoor space is equipped with many trendy new heaters, and the tender roasted meat from White Men Can't Jerk and the beer from Brixton Brewery and Five Points are intoxicating local.

What does a real pub look like? Oak paneling is unpretentious.

If you were to synthesize a "stylish" East London pub in the lab, you might end up with something that looks a lot like The Crooked Billet. The meat is free-range, the coffee comes from Climpson & Sons, and you won’t be hard to find strong local beer from distilleries such as Fourpure, Neckstamper and Hackney Brewery. If you like to order crab soup with open-air IPA, head to the spacious beer garden. On particularly severe days, covered stalls with terrace heaters are the main real estate.

What does a real pub look like? On the gentrified side, but not so much that it suppresses its life and soul.

84 Take Clapton Road, E5 9JP.

A post shared by THE CROWN AND SHUTTLE (@crown_and_shuttle)

Does the beer garden need to grow grass? If you are The Crown and Shuttle, then the answer to this question is resounding: "No." Considering the available space on this partially covered Shoreditch Terrace (and the range of Refreshing Beer, Pilsner and Pale Ales), we have to agree. Countless space heaters make it a suitable place for a few dim boys to sink and shelter from the cold.

What does a real pub look like? In a way of "we have exposed bricks and filament bulbs" without trying too hard.

226 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6PJ.

Named after a 17th-century pirate, The Captain Kidd is a bar by Sam Smith, where you can use organic beer to soothe your sorrows and enjoy the magnificent view of the city. The terrace with parasols by the river has become a hot spot for sunsets for obvious reasons. Although it occupies a vast courtyard that was once a popular place for public executions, it is now littered with fairy lights rather than full of bad blood. Sick corpse. But bring some wool.

What does a real pub look like? A bit obsessed with its man-made pirate history, but this is a totally enjoyable place to spend an afternoon.

108 Wapping High St, E1W 2NE.

This Grade II protected West London haunt is located amidst the hustle and bustle between Notting Hill Gate and Holland Park Station. There is a fantastic garden that is perfect for a pint of beer, rain or shine. Thanks to a large number of heaters, soft lighting and secluded corners for quiet conversation, the bijou terrace becomes particularly private after dark. As for the food? Look forward to your bar gourmet classic with a sourdough or two. After all, this is Notting Hill.

What does a real pub look like? It's so charming that you think you walked into the set of a Richard Curtis movie and you will be forgiven.

114 Camden Hill Road, W8 7AR.

A post shared by The Swan Pub (@theswanchiswick)

Trapped in Chiswick? Craving for a pint? Well, my friend, going to Neuschwanstein Castle is a must. The courtyard of this hidden tavern is very spacious, and you can see that its Covid-compliant layout and Feng Shui space heater layout are well thought out. This is not the kind of bar where you have to yell when the DJ plays Mase sarcastically, and it's better this way. The most advanced Sunday barbecue is worth a trip to the west alone.

What does a real pub look like? Appropriate elegance, plenty of light during the day, and a sultry atmosphere when night falls.

119 Evershed Walk, Acton Lane, W4 5H.
