Stellantis announced that it will recall 131,177 heavy-duty Ram trucks built in the 2021 and 2022 model years to deal with potential fire risks. Although there is no exact repair method yet, the manufacturer stated that it will inform customers how to proceed before December 3, 2021. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report, after investigating several engine compartment fires since at least February 2021, the company pointed out that the solid air intake on Cummins-equipped trucks regardless of whether the engine is running or not The heater relays may short-circuit and catch fire.

At present, the automaker urges car owners to park the affected models outdoors, as far away as possible from buildings and other vehicles.

After October 8, 2021, Stellattis will no longer ship trucks equipped with this precision air inlet heater relay and will not be included in the recall. There are 6,769 trucks in Canada and 3,097 trucks outside the North American market also participated in this event. The recall does not affect trucks equipped with a 6.4-liter gasoline Hemi V8 engine.

Ram stated that it received a warranty claim that may be related to the issue and reported at least seven fires. However, there were no injuries or accidents related to this issue.
