In 2020, Daniel Green, also known as Danny Diesel, became a nomad, traversing 40,000 miles across 23 states to participate in drag racing. This year, he did it again, but he replaced his 12-valve with a common rail Cummins rebuilt by Wagler Competition. See what makes Daniel, his truck and engine unique.

Diesel by this week

To make a long story short, Daniel Green of Danny Diesel became a nomad in 2020. He drove 40,000 miles across 23 states and drove the 1995 Dodge 2500 short bed for nine months in drag racing. The longer story is that he sold his house, his dog, his girlfriend (just kidding) and everything he owned in November 2019, and bought a home trailer and his truck, and planned to Participate in the competition every weekend in 2020.

"I take a 9-month road trip every weekend to participate in the rally," Green said. "Obviously, COVID happened, so the first two months were delayed. I just went out. I bought a trailer, sold all my things, and then started racing. I also did this to make people realize, If you want to go out and do something, you can do it—you just have to work hard."

You might be thinking,'How much effort can you put into each weekend game? Many answers! Danny Diesel said that he spends about 30 hours a week on his truck, between his travel time and running his own business. He works and lives remotely outside the trailer, and participates in competitions the rest of the time.

Although Daniel has gained some notoriety in the past year or so, he has been heavily involved in diesel drag racing for several years.

"I have been using diesel cars for about 7 years," Green said. “I’ve always really wanted to hurry up. Last year, I had a 12-valve Cummins. In the competition, these were not very reliable or consistent. This year, I cooperated with Wagler Competition and Jeremy Wagler said that if I send him a junkyard engine , He will make it for me. I said, well, let me see what I can find.

"I visited eBay and several other websites, and I sent Jeremy a picture of the engine burning down in the truck. I said, what do you think? He said,'Well, that's not what I want to do. Thing, but if that’s what you want to send me, then send it. I finally bought the engine and sent it to Jeremy Wagler."

The junkyard engine is the 6.7-liter common rail Cummins in the 2020 Dodge 2500. Green found it outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

"The person I got it from basically scrapped the truck and sold it," he said. "This 2020 Dodge can easily catch fire, so that's why it is there. Wagler turned it from a junkyard engine into something special and reliable. His shop did a lot of machine work and cleaned it up. It waits.

"They honed the block. They also had to put on a sixth cylinder because there was a little rusty ring. They put on the cylinder, but it was a stock hole. They also did some machine work on the head. Wager Le played his magic."

According to Daniel, Wagler’s shop painted the engine, added a street fighter lever and made some changes to the head, including replacing the rocker arm and push rod, because the 2020 components are not adjustable.

"On the 2020 Cummins engine, the push rod and valve spring are not adjustable, so you cannot adjust the valve clearance," he said. "Wagler installed the rocker arm and Manton push rod before 2020, so we can adjust the valve. We also had to cut off the side air intake because the fire was a bit too big for it. It melted the air intake slightly, So we ground it off and put a Wagler side air inlet on it. CFT Performance completed all the charging pipes."

The Cummins engine still retains the original pistons and the original 2020 6.7-liter 10-bolt crank, but it has an exergy fuel system with 400% injectors, a 14mm pump, and an 85mm forced induction with a stainless steel T6 manifold The turbocharger and an 85-100 shots of nitrous acid are provided by the Nitrous Express Maximizer 5 progressive controller.

"The 10-bolt cranks in stock are important because they weigh 60-65 pounds. They are lighter, but they are much stronger than previous Cummins cranks, and because of Wagler, the head has better fluidity," he said. "This engine should provide approximately 1,500 horsepower."

As of now, Danny Diesel has restarted his 2021 season. In 2020, he will focus on ODSS drag racing, but this year he plans to allocate time between diesel and gasoline drag racing.

"This year, I divided it into diesel competition and gasoline competition, because I think if I participate in some gasoline competitions, it will give my sponsors more advertising opportunities," Green said. "There is not a lot of diesel in gasoline events, so if you have 7-second diesel in gasoline events, you will get more attention than 7-second diesel in diesel events."
